The British outdoor gear and apparel company Berghaus Limited was established in Newcastle upon Tyne, North East England, and now has its main office there.[2] Peter Lockey and Gordon Davison, two climbers and mountaineers, formed it in 1966 with the intention of importing and selling outdoor gear.[3] The LD Mountain Centre was the name of the outdoor retailer operated by Lockey and Davison in Newcastle upon Tyne.[4] They started creating and manufacturing their own goods in 1972 to sell at their store. They gave their company the name "Berghaus," which means "mountain house" in German.
